A Burnley-born artist has become the youngest woman to paint an official portrait of The Queen.

Award-winning artist, Isobel Peachey, was commissioned by Cunard to create the portrait for its new liner Queen Elizabeth.

Isobel moved south with her family when she was 17, where she went to art school in Chelsea and Wimbledon.

  • Even though she now lives in London, she had never been to Buckingham Palace before being asked to paint The Queen.

    "I decided two weeks beforehand to book myself on one of the guided tours, just so I could get the feel of being in Buckingham Palace," she says.

    But it still didn't prepare her for her private visits: "Of course you go to a different part of Buckingham Palace, a sort of private section.

    "The staff were fantastic. They were really friendly and said 'just be yourself'."
